Ahau
It is an honour to introduce myself as the new principal of Kuranui College. Together with our dedicated staff, I am excited to welcome returning and new students and whānau to the start of 2025.
Having recently relocated to South Wairarapa, I have felt so grateful for the warm welcome extended to me by the staff, students, and the wider community over the past few weeks. I can genuinely attest that both our staff and students go above and beyond to make newcomers feel at home and settled here.
At Kuranui, we understand that academics are important, and we are proud of the achievements we’ve made. But what makes this place truly special is that we know our students are about so much more than just academic success.
Our vision, which guides our strategic direction, is to create a kura where every individual is nurtured, inspired, and prepared to take their place in a changing world.
Our values—manaakitanga (respect), te hiringa (determination), mana tangata (integrity), aroha (empathy), and auahatanga (creativity)—shape how we interact with one another and how we live our vision every day. Together, our vision and values define what we call the KC Kawa.
Since starting my journey here, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing our vision and values in action. From my pōwhiri last year to the Year 9 pōwhiri at the beginning of this year, developing a shared understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with our staff and students, seeing our Year 13 prefects proudly wear their blazers for the first time, to the Valentine’s Day celebration, tabloid sports, and swimming sports—each moment has affirmed the strength of our community. I also had the honour of spending Waitangi Day at Kohunui marae and recently cooking and sharing kai at the Carterton Youth Village. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet the incredible coaches and managers who dedicate their time to ensure our students can participate in the sports they love.
To our students, as we continue this year, I encourage you to embrace all that Kuranui has to offer. Dive into school life, get involved, and be open to new experiences. This is how you can truly become part of our community and make your unique mark here. Remember, you are an important part of our whānau.
At Kuranui, we see you as a whole person and celebrate who you are as you walk through our gates. We value your right to be yourselves, while also understanding that each of us has a responsibility to contribute positively to our community. Let’s show care for one another, respect each other’s differences, and treat people and property with kindness.
To our whānau, I am excited to work with you. Rest assured, we are fully committed to helping our students thrive in everything they do. I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming year.
Ngā mihi nui,
Misbah Sadat
Principal
